An amparo seeks to annul the second list of candidates for attorney general of the Public Ministry (MP). The action was presented on April 25 by David Alberto Juárez Aldana and seeks to carry out a new qualification and subtract points from prosecutors and public defenders, under the same principle that subtracted the experience of the judges in the scoring before the Nomination Commission.
While it is unknown if the protection will succeed, President Bernardo Arévalo has already received the new list of candidatesprepared by the Nomination Commission after a resolution of the Constitutional Court (CC), in which it ordered a new list to be made.
Interviews with the candidates by President Arévalo are scheduled for April 28, 29 and 30.
On April 25, the CC declared the requests for clarification and extension related to the process of electing the attorney general for the period 2026-2030 inadmissible.
The appeals were presented by Raúl Amílcar Falla Ovalle and by the president of the Judicial Branch and the Supreme Court of Justice, Claudia Lucrecia Paredes Castañeda, related to the order issued on April 23 within file 1926-2026, as reported by the Court.
In a session on Friday, April 22, the Nomination Commission made a reevaluation and included the 48 candidates to integrate the new roster.
This Tuesday, April 28, the Nomination Commission published the new list in the Diario de Centro América; With the publication, the 72-hour period for filing objections opens.
