César David Guavita of the Movistar Best PC team won this Thursday, April 30, in the second stage of the Bantrab 2026 Cycling Tour, held between San Felipe, Retalhuleu, and San Rafael Pie de la Cuesta, San Marcos, on a 119.3-kilometer route.
The Colombian crossed the finish line with a time of 3:12:49 and assumed the lead in the general classification with 5 hours and 57 minutes accumulated, closely followed by Wilson Peña and Yesid Alberto Pira with the same time, in what was a stage marked by intense heat and the constant activity of the escapees. “A tough, hot stage. We have a very strong team, I am very happy with my team and grateful to God”said Guavita after crossing the finish line.
For much of the route, a group of four cyclists escaped from the peloton and starred in the offensive action of the day, being the same ones who stood out in the flying goals throughout the stage. Henry Sam, Christopher Díaz, Esdras Morales and Nixon Rosero animated the race from the first kilometers, disputing the points available in the three flying goals and the mountain prizes. In the final kilometers, the escape was reduced to two cyclists, Nixon Rosero and Esdras Morales, before the peloton regained control and Guavita won the final sprint.
Guatemalan Mardoqueo Vásquez from the Hino-One-La-Red team was the best representative of the country in the stage. However, the prominence for Guatemala came through Henry Sam, who led the flying goals of the day with 11 points.
