This April 30th landed the first commercial flight between the United States and Venezuela, after almost seven years of suspension between both countries.
The plane, operated by American Airlines, landed this Thursday at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía at 1:16 p.m. local time (5:16 p.m. GMT) and was welcomed with the traditional water arch, with which this American airline was welcomed.
American Airlines was the last commercial airline that operated in Venezuela, in 2019before air connections are suspended due to tensions between Washington and Caracas.
The moment was marked when the pilot of the plane displayed a small Venezuelan flag, while the passengers got off with flags of the south american country.
The moment was celebrated by both the US and Venezuelan authorities. The Minister of Transportation of the South American country, Jacqueline Faria added that the country expects to receive “more than 100 thousand passengers” on this new route.
“Venezuela feels ready to receive all these lines. Venezuela has prepared because we have the capacity,” Faria said.
Since January of this year, American Airlines had already announced its intention to resume its flights to Venezuela, following an order from the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to instruct the Department of Transportation to take steps to restore air service, according to CNN.
After this first flight, many people might be wondering: now that American Airlines service has been restored, How much could a flight from the United States to the South American country cost?
According to CNN and other American media, The route will have a daily frequency between Maiquetía Airport and Miami International Airport.
Regarding prices, CNN states that these can vary by departure date, ticket type, as well as routes and connections.
“A search on the American Airlines website shows that a round-trip ticket departing from Miami in early May and returning in late month costs more than US$1 thousand“CNN noted.
From the official American Airlines website you can see several flight options from Miami to Venezuela, with different dates, but all have an approximate price of US$758 for a round-trip ticket to Caracas.
