Barcelona suffers but wins 2-1 against Osasuna and is one step away from being LaLiga champion

Barcelona took a hard-fought but vital victory in El Sadar this Saturday. Hansi Flick’s blaugranas beat Osasuna 2-1 after coming back in the last ten minutes of the game with goals from Robert Lewandowski in the 80th minute and Ferran Torres in the 85th, in an afternoon that was about to become a setback for the LaLiga leader.

The victory leaves Barcelona with 88 points in the table, awaiting Real Madrid’s result against Espanyol this Sunday, where if the meringues do not win the blaugranas would mathematically be proclaimed champions of LaLiga 2025-26.

The game started off tight for Barcelona, who did not find clarity in the first half despite generating some chances with Pedri, Dani Olmo and Roony Bardghji without being able to beat the Osasuna goalkeeper. The score reached 0-0 at half-time in what was a first half of Barça dominance without reward, with the Navarrese team well organized and looking for the counterattack with Budimir as an offensive reference, who even crashed a shot into the post in the 35th minute.

In the second half, Barcelona continued looking for a goal but it was Osasuna who took the lead before the comeback came. In the final minutes Lewandowski opened the scoring with a header at 80 to make it 0-1 and just five minutes later Ferran Torres sealed the score 0-2 with a shot from inside the area. Raúl García’s header at 88 for the final 1-2 added tension to the final minutes but Barcelona resisted to take the three points from Pamplona.

One step away from the title

With 88 points and four rounds left, Barcelona needs Real Madrid not to win this Sunday against Espanyol to become mathematical champion of LaLiga 2025-26. If the meringues draw or lose at the RCDE Stadium, the azulgranas will be champions even before the Clásico on May 10 at the Camp Nou, in what would be one of the most anticipated alironess in recent years in Spanish football.

The match also raised concerns about the injury of Pedri, who had to be replaced in the 87th minute by Marc Bernal after receiving a blow, and Pau Cubarsí, who was also treated on the field. Despite the scares, Flick can be satisfied with the result on an afternoon where Barcelona demonstrated the character of champions by coming back in the final minutes of a match that was on the verge of slipping away at El Sadar.

The goals of the match

  • Lewandowski 80′ (Barcelona)
  • Ferran Torres 86′ (Barcelona)
  • Raúl García 88′ (Osasuna)
