Who is Ivannia Ponce? The new vice minister of Integration and Foreign Trade

The Ministry of Economy (Mineco) swore in this Wednesday Ivannia Yahaira Maykan Ponce Zavala as the new vice minister of Integration and Foreign Trade, the ministry reported in an official statement.

According to Mineco, Ponce Zavala will assume the leadership of an agenda focused on trade facilitation, the administration of trade agreements and the defense of the country’s interests in international markets and regional integration.

Career in foreign trade and arbitration

The new vice minister is a lawyer and notary, with experience in foreign trade, investment arbitrations and public management. Since 2019, she was part of the Vice Ministry of Integration and Foreign Trade as a legal advisor.

According to official information, during his management he participated in trade defense processes, monitoring of international controversies and institutional representation in inter-institutional spaces linked to trade, logistics and economic development.

Likewise, he coordinated investment arbitrations under international standards and participated in relevant cases for the country regarding international litigation.

Institutional strengthening

Mineco pointed out that the appointment responds to the experience accumulated by Ponce Zavala within the vice ministry that he will now direct.

The institution added that with this designation it seeks to strengthen its technical and institutional capabilities, in addition to promoting human talent that contributes to the economic development, regional integration and foreign trade of Guatemala.

Minister Gabriela García reported last March that the Vice Minister of Integration and Foreign Trade, Héctor Marroquín Mora, was leaving Mineco for personal reasons, as of April 1 of this year.
