A federal court in New York published this Wednesday, May 6, 2026, an alleged suicide letter attributed to financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a document that He remained under judicial reserve for seven years and that now once again places the case at the center of the political and judicial debate in the United States.

The note would have been found in July 2019 by Nicholas Tartaglione, then Epstein’s cellmate, weeks before the mogul was found dead in a Manhattan federal prison while awaiting trial for sex trafficking of minors.

The document was released by order of federal judge Kenneth Karas, after The New York Times request the declassification of records related to the case. The alleged letter contains phrases such as: “They investigated me for months, THEY FOUND NOTHING!!!” and “It is a privilege to be able to choose the moment to say goodbye.”

According to the court file, Tartaglione claimed to have found the note hidden inside a graphic novel after Epstein was found unconscious with a strip of cloth around his neck in an apparent suicide attempt in July 2019.

Although Epstein survived that incidentTwo weeks later he was found dead in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Lower Manhattan. The authorities concluded that he died by suicide, although the case continues to be surrounded by theories and public questions.

Epstein case shakes Washington again

The publication of the document coincides with new investigations by the US Congress into figures linked to Epstein and his network of contacts.

This Wednesday, the Secretary of Commerce of the United States, Howard Lutnick, appeared before legislators in a hearing related to his ties with the financier. During May, other personalities must also testify, including former Attorney General Pam Bondi and billionaires Leon Black and Bill Gates.

He Epstein case has maintained constant pressure on political and business sectors due to the relationships that the magnate maintained for years with influential figures in the United States and other countries.

Doubts persist about Epstein’s death

The alleged letter did not appear among the millions of documents released between December and January by the Department of Justice and the FBI about the Epstein case.

The revelation revives doubts surrounding the financier’s death, which occurred on August 10, 2019. Although official investigations concluded that it was a suicide, political sectors and part of public opinion have questioned inconsistencies in prison surveillance and missing fragments of security recordings.

The FBI and the Department of Justice stated in July 2025 that they found no evidence of an alleged “client list” used by Epstein to blackmail powerful figures. However, speculation continues due to to the magnitude of their political, business and social ties.
