Mexico responds to the US after accusing the former governor of Sinaloa of drug trafficking

During the morning of this Thursday, May 7, the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaumdemanded from the Government of the USA that presents the evidence on which he bases the accusations of drug trafficking against various Mexican officials, especially against the former governor of Sinaloathe writer and politician Rubén Rocha Moya.

The Mexican president linked her insistence with reciprocity and “shared responsibility between the United States and Mexico” to combat drug trafficking on both sides of the border, which is why, in a press conference, Claudia denied that her Government protect to those who are singled out for their alleged links with the drug trafficking.

“We need evidence,” Sheinbaum responded when asked about the attorney general’s statements. Todd Blanchewho publicly warned that in the coming days the accusations against various Mexican officials will continue. “We do not protect anyone, but to arrest someone you have to comply with the law Mexican,” he stated.

Given the circumstances, the president maintained that any detention must comply with national legislation and stated that, so far, the US has not sent enough elements to proceed against the pointed out. Furthermore, he criticized that, in one of these cases, the only test presented was “a sheet with a payment note”.

Bilateral cooperation between Mexico and the USA

President Claudia Sheinbaum linked the case of the former governor of Sinaloa with the investigation folders in Mexico and maintained that the cooperation bilateral with the US should be reciprocalsince it is a strategic, intense and multifaceted relationship focused on border security and the fight against transnational organized crime.

In this regard, the president reminded the US Government that Mexico has handed over more than 90 people required by the US who were in Mexican prisons: “It is a shared responsibility. And if they have something against any Mexican, they should present the evidence and here it is judged, according to the criteria of the penal system”, he noted.

Additionally, Sheinbaum said that the Mexican Government has asked the United States to hand over nearly four people linked to the cases of fuel smuggling and two individuals related to the case of the 43 students missing in Ayotzinapa in it 2014with no response from the US so far.

Therefore, President Claudia Sheinbaum insisted that the relationship with the Government of the United States must be maintained under four principles: I respect to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Mexico, responsibility shared and differentiated, mutual respect and trust mutual, so that everything works in the best way.

Collaboration with the USA

Finally, the Mexican president rejected any interference either intervention of the United States in Mexico, “less in matters politicians”, although President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that communication, collaboration and coordination with the US Government continue, because both countries are business partners.

This is because US interference in Mexico is a recurring and very complex in the bilateral relationship, characterized by tensions and challenges, especially in security, drug trafficking and internal politics, so that the Mexican position has been decline any type of foreign intervention and emphasize national sovereignty.
