Municipal beat Deportivo Mixco 2-0 at the Santo Domingo de Guzmán Stadium in the first leg of the Clausura 2026 semifinals, in a match that started balanced in the first half but that the capital’s residents resolved forcefully in the second half with goals from Rodrigo Saravia in the 51st minute and Pedro Altán in the 74th minute.

After the game, Saravia was one of the most outstanding and spoke with pride about the level shown by his team throughout the season. “We are a very united group, in this team there are no egos, it is worth dreaming. In the last year we have shown that we are the most consistent team,” stated the scarlet midfielder.

The match had a stalemate and goalless first half, with both teams measuring their strength without finding clarity in the rival area. Municipal generated the most dangerous chances with shots from César Calderón and Erik López that found no destination. In the second half the Reds came out with greater intensity and in the 51st minute Saravia opened the scoring with a shot that beat Kevin Moscoso.

The midfielder himself acknowledged that he could have scored earlier. “I think I had many opportunities inside the goal, I talked to the coach in the first half that I had many more opportunities to score,” he pointed out. For Saravia, the goal has a special flavor after a season with ups and downs. “I’m happy, it’s been a lot of perseverance and a lot of effort. At first I wasn’t playing and now, thank God, I’ve been given more,” expressed the midfielder.

The return in El Trébol

Despite the advantage achieved, Saravia was clear that the series is not closed and that Municipal will arrive at Saturday’s second leg with the same mentality with which it has faced the entire season. “In El Trébol we have been doing things well, thank God, but that does not mean that the series is closed. Mixco is a complicated rival that has interesting players,” he warned.

Saravia closed his statements with a message full of ambition for the final stretch of the tournament. “In this club it is always allowed to dream. We are focused on Saturday, it is a very important game,” he stated.

The second leg will be played this Saturday, May 9 at the Manuel Felipe Carrera Stadium, where Municipal will play at home with the support of its fans. Fabricio Benítez’s Chicharroneros will need to win by three goals or more to qualify directly for the final, while Municipal will only need to draw to advance to the grand final where they will seek the 33rd title in their history.
