In the publication of the CC it is indicated that in recent days “various threats and attacks against the presiding judge of that Court and other magistrates of that Court”.
“HE they strongly reject all actions that seek to attack the principles that ensure the free and independent exercise of the jurisdictional function, and a call is made to citizens and public and private actors to conduct oneself within a framework of respect, legality and democratic dialoguerepudiating any form of violence or intimidation,” detailed the CC.
When consulted, Judge Roberto Molina Barreto said that some of his colleagues have been victims of media harassment and intimidation.
He added that the president of the CC, Gladys Annabella Morfin Mansilla“is the one who has more specific details about the situationsince it was she who issued the release”.
Molina Barreto reported that one of the judges presented a video of a vehicle with photographs of the magistrates of the CC and a message “aggressive”, a situation that led to considering hiring a company to carry out a risk analysis.
Furthermore, the magistrate assured that he has not modified his personal security measures and? has not received threats direct of that magnitude.
He also indicated that the judge Dina Ochoa had announced its intention to present a complaint to the Public Ministryalthough he said he had no confirmation that it had already been effected.
Regarding the session celebrated this May 7 by the magistrates of the CC, Molina Barreto indicated that the media usually focus their attention on issues politicians; However, he argued that the majority of the cases treated are of civil nature and related to conflicts between individuals.
Finally, Molina Barreto clarified that during the plenary session of this day were not discussed topics related to University of San Carlos of Guatemala (Usac) nor with the Nomination Commission to elect the attorney general of the Public Ministry.
