Lionel Messi had a stellar afternoon this Saturday in Canada. The Argentine star was the great figure in Inter Miami’s 4-2 victory against Toronto FC on matchday 12 of the MLS, in who contributed one goal, two assists and also broke a historical record by becoming the fastest player to reach 100 goals plus assists in the North American leaguea figure he achieved in just 64 games with the Florida team.
The match was completely dominated by Inter Miami in the second half. Rodrigo De Paul opened the scoring with a free kick and Messi’s two assists came consecutively in the complement: one to Luis Suárez after an overflow from the right and another to Sergio Reguilón, who crossed goal to beat goalkeeper Luka Gavran. La Pulga also had his personal reward in the 75th minute when he received a pass from De Paul, stood in front of the goal and scored at will to make it 4-0 in what was his 906th goal in the history of his professional career.
The victory against Toronto comes as Inter Miami’s response after the painful defeat in the classic against Orlando City, where the Herons wasted a 3-0 lead to fall 3-4 in added time. The Florida team found the perfect revenge in Canada with a collective performance where Messi and De Paul were the main protagonists. Rodrigo also contributed a goal and an assist in what was a memorable afternoon for Garzas soccer in the MLS.
