Jaycko Bourdet closes among the top eight in the world in his debut at the Gymnastics World Cup

Jaycko Bourdet closed his debut in the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup with a historic performance. The Guatemalan finished this Saturday, May 9, in eighth place in the floor final in Varna, Bulgaria, in a competition that brought together more than 100 athletes from 30 countries and is part of the FIG World Challenge Cup calendar. Bourdet had managed to qualify for the final last Thursday with a score of 13.300, positioning himself among the promises of world artistic gymnastics in his first appearance at this competitive level.

In the final, the Guatemalan recorded a score of 11.966, which placed him in eighth place in the floor test. The gold medal went to the Bulgarian Victor Tournicourt with 13.466, the silver to the Australian Martin Miggitsch with 13.300 and the bronze to the Uzbek Ravshan Kamiljanov with 13.166. Bourdet also competed in jumping, parallel and pommel throughout the competition, although it was on the ground where he managed to shine most clearly.

The athlete himself expressed satisfaction with the result on his social networks. “Very happy with the result. Let’s continue and continue improving, we already have a clear parameter of the level. Up Guate!”wrote Bourdet after completing his participation in Bulgaria, a message that summarizes the spirit of an athlete who came to Varna with the aim of learning and leaves with the experience of having competed among the best in the world.

Looking ahead to the next challenges

Bourdet will focus his preparation on the Pan American Artistic Gymnastics Championship in June in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, before facing the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 in July, where he will seek to repeat the performances that catapulted him as a figure of Chapín sport by winning four gold medals and two silver medals at the Guatemala 2025 Central American Games.

With his sights set on the Olympic cycle, the Guatemalan also has the Lima 2027 Pan American Games and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games on his agenda. His participation in the Varna World Cup is the first big step on that path and confirms that Bourdet has the necessary level to continue growing in the international elite of artistic gymnastics.
