Barcelona was proclaimed champion of LaLiga 2025-26 this Sunday, adding its 29th title in the Spanish championship, consolidating itself as the second most successful team in the history of the competition behind Real Madrid, which leads the record with 36 titles.
The Blaugranas revalidated the title they won last season under the direction of Hansi Flick in what is their second consecutive championship and the second also for the German coach at the helm of the Catalan team, who achieved the League double in his first two seasons on the Camp Nou bench.
The historical dominance of LaLiga has been practically a duopoly between Barcelona and Real Madrid. The Merengues lead the record with 36 titles while the Blaugranas remain at 29, a difference of seven championships that Barcelona will try to reduce in the coming years. Far behind both of them is Atlético de Madrid with 11 titles, although the Colchoneros have only won two in this century, in 2014 and 2021. They are followed by Athletic Bilbao with 8 championships, although the Basques have not won a new league title for 42 years.
The rest of the list is completed by Valencia with 6 titles, Real Sociedad with 2 and Deportivo de la Coruña, Sevilla and Real Betis with one championship each. With this Sunday’s title, Barcelona closes a season of absolute dominance in LaLiga where it finished with 91 points and the historical peculiarity of having been crowned champion in a Clásico against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou, something that had never happened before in the history of Spanish football.
The LaLiga record
- Real Madrid: 36 titles
- FC Barcelona: 29 titles
- Atlético de Madrid: 11 titles
- Athletic Bilbao: 8 titles
- Valencia: 6 titles
- Real Sociedad: 2 titles
- Deportivo de la Coruña, Sevilla and Real Betis: 1 title each
With this new championship, Barcelona also adds its second consecutive LaLiga title, a streak that it had not achieved since the time of Pep Guardiola when the Blaugranas won three leagues in a row between 2009 and 2011. Hansi Flick thus consolidates his position as one of the most successful coaches in the recent history of the Catalan club in just two seasons at the helm of the team.
