The Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV) reported that this Friday, May 15, it is carrying out work on the Río Dulce bridge, in Izabal.

He explained that the work consists of the rehabilitation and risk mitigation of the structure located on route CA-13, in Lívingston, Izabal.

He added that, as a result of the works, the partial closure of a lane has been recorded. The closure began at 7 a.m. and will end at 5 p.m.

According to the CIV, the objective is to strengthen the safety and operation of the bridge.

Given the partial closure of a lane, the CIV recommended that pilots drive with caution, respect the signs and consider additional travel times.

In August 2024, Guatevisión and Free Press they had access to a technical report prepared by the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred), which reveals “severe” damage to the Río Dulce bridge, situation that generated concern among the authorities and the local population.

The findings are not new, but the damage has worsened, according to studies that Conred has carried out since 2017, in which it has warned about the deterioration of the infrastructure.
