Municipal and Xelajú MC meet this Saturday at the El Trébol Stadium in the first leg final of Clausura 2026, in what will be the third confrontation between these two teams for the title in the history of Guatemalan soccer.
The two previous meetings between the two in a final are completely tied, with one win for each: Municipal in the Clausura 2010 and Xelajú in the Clausura 2012, so this 2026 will be the definitive tiebreaker between two of the most important and historic clubs in the country.
Municipal reaches this final after an impeccable league in which it eliminated Deportivo Mixco with a crushing aggregate score of 7-0 in the semifinals at El Trébol that left the Chicharroneros with no options. Mario Acevedo’s Reds are the most consistent team of the season with 86 points in the accumulated table and arrive as favorites for the first leg, playing in their own stadium and with the support of their fans.
Xelajú MC, for its part, arrives as the leader of the Clausura with 39 points after eliminating Comunicaciones in an exciting series that was decided 4-2 on aggregate, with the second leg at the Mario Camposeco sealing the classification of the Superchivos. Roberto Hernández leads his team to this final with the hope of conquering the Eighth Moon in the history of the Quetzaltecan club.
