The concentration coincides with the day on which the management of Consuelo Porras and the replacement occurs on the part of Gabriel Garcia Luna as Attorney General.

Different social sectors, students and citizen organizations announced activities for this Saturday in front of the headquarters of the Public Ministry (MP), at 15 Avenida 15-16, zone 1, Barrio Gerona.
After an extensive day marked by resolutions of the Constitutional Court (CC), the rejection of provisional protections against the election process of the attorney general and the swearing-in of García Luna by President Bernardo Arévalo, social organizations called for a series of activities in front of the Prosecutor’s Office building to express their rejection of Porras’ management.
The activities could extend into the night, according to the calls issued by citizen groups and student organizations.
The organizers pointed out that it is a symbolic “farewell party” for the closure of the administration of the prosecutor, who will leave office after eight years at the head of the MP.
The call occurs in the midst of a political and judicial scenario that intensified this week, after the CC refused to grant provisional protections related to the renewal process of the attorney general, which allowed the payroll that led to the appointment of García Luna to be kept in force for the period 2026-2030. Three judges issued reasoned votes in which they questioned the delay with which legal actions were scheduled within the constitutional court.
Last Friday, May 15, President Bernardo Arévalo swore in García Luna as the new attorney general and head of the MP. The president stated that he hopes that the new official will act with “clarity, wisdom and unwavering ethics,” while the new administration in the investigative entity will officially begin on Sunday, May 17 at 0 am.
The demonstration is part of the questions from different social sectors, civil organizations and international actors, who in recent years have pointed out the Porras administration for alleged setbacks in the fight against corruption, criminalization of justice operators and institutional deterioration.
