For this Monday, May 18, the debate against two gang members from Barrio 18 accused of the crime of Gerson Ajcúc, mayor of Chuarrancho, was scheduled to begin; However, it was postponed without specifying a date in the Second Sentencing Court.
The two accused, Erick Solórzano Pirir, alias “Chino”, and Óscar Alfredo Martínez, alias “Guanaco”, were sent to trial for the crime of murder.
In the Second Sentencing Court it was reported that the hearing would be by videoconference, but the room designated for this type of proceedings was destroyed during the riots on January 17 and 18, during a riot of inmates in the Renovación 1 prison, in Escuintla. Both are imprisoned in that prison.
It was requested that the accused be transferred to the Court Tower to appear in person; However, the Penitentiary System did not carry out the transfer and cited security issues.
Given this situation, the Court decided to postpone the start of the debate without defining a new date, due to agenda issues. The diligence could be scheduled between September and October 2026.
The case
On February 26, 2025, at kilometer 11.5 of the route to the Atlantic, Gerson Ajcuc, mayor of Chuarrancho, was attacked by individuals who were riding a motorcycle. The official died from gunshot wounds.
According to the investigation, frames identify two men on a motorcycle. Alias “Chino” would have shot the official, while alias “Guanaco” would have driven the motorcycle.
