Litzy, 20 years old, was studying Social Work because, according to his father, he wanted to help other people. Her plans were cut short on October 5, 2020, when she was kidnapped in Teculutan, Zacapa. A day later, his body was located.

More than five years after the crime, Litzy’s family asks for justice while the trial against Kevin Rivas Cordoncousin of the victim and the only defendant in the case, is approaching a resolution in the High Risk Court B.

During the program Direct Impactof GuatevisionEdgar Cordón recounted how the kidnapping began, the threats the family received, the moment he identified his daughter’s body and what he expects from the court.

“They wanted Q5 million”

Cordón recalled that on October 5, 2020, he returned home after going out to a field, when his mother told him that they had received a call.

“They told me that Litzy has kidnapped the girl and that they are asking for a ransom of Q5 million,” he said.

The young woman’s father stated that from that moment “the ordeal began” for the family. Then he said, began communicating with the alleged kidnapping negotiator. “They told me that we had to cancel, if we wanted to have Litzy, Q5 million,” he said.

According to Cordón, the kidnappers demanded the money with threats. “They were adamant that we pay them that money (…) because if not they were going to take her life,” he said.

“They are going to find her body in an alley”

Cordón indicated that the family went to the National Civil Police to report the kidnapping. Hours later, he said, he received another call.

“You have already put the authorities on alert (…) and what they are going to achieve is that her body is going to be found in an alley,” he recalled.

On October 6, 2020, Litzy’s body was located in the Los Pasitos hamlet, in Los Puentes, Teculután. “Unfortunately it was hers,” said Cordón, remembering the moment when the authorities asked him to identify the body.

The father reported that he found his daughter “face up” and “lying on a pile of wood.” “It was too difficult to witness that (…) I couldn’t stand it, I had to move from there,” he said.

The family asks for justice

The trial against Kevin Rivas Cordón began on January 15, 2026 and it is in its final stage. The family hopes that the court will issue a conviction.

“We ask for justice (…) we believe that they are sufficient for the judges to determine to sentence the accused person,” said Cordón.

He also stated that he hopes that the accused will not be released. “Let it be justice so that that person is no longer free, causing more harm to other people,” he added.

Edgar Cordón still has the motorcycle that Litzy used for the last time on October 5, 2020. According to the shared story, the father uses it to move around various sectors of Teculután, as a permanent memory of his daughter and the events that the family hopes will not go unpunished.
