On May 20, the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, urged “ordinary Cubans” on the island to build “a new Cuba”, proposed by President Donald Trump.
Rubio published a video that coincided with the anniversary of the first inauguration of a democratically elected leader in Cuba.
“On a day like today, in 1902, the Cuban flag flew for the first time over an independent country. But I know that today you, who They call the island their home, they go through unimaginable hardships“, Rubio began.
The Secretary of State stated that the “real reason” for lack of electricity, food and fuel is that who control Cuba have “looted thousands of dollars.”
He also accused the military business conglomerate Gaesa, founded by former president Raúl Castro, to enrich himself at the expense of the people.
“President Trump offers a new path (of relations) between the United States and a new Cuba. A new Cuba where you, Ordinary Cubans, not just Gaesa, can own a gas stationa clothing store or a restaurant,” Rubio said.
And he highlighted: “Currently, the only thing that stands in the way of “The path to a better future is those who control the country.”
Rubio’s message comes after repeated pressure from Washington against Havana, as well as repeated threats from Trump to take control of the island.
