The Constitutional Court (CC) scheduled the discussion of a package of legal actions that question decisions of the Superior University Council (CSU) of the Usac.
Among the actions, according to the Court’s digital portal, are those presented by deputies David Illescas, José Toledo and Sonia Gutierréz, others by students and members of the CSU itself.
Also included are actions promoted by the Association of Lawyers and Notaries of Guatemala (Cang), as well as by the Assembly of Presidents of the Professional Associations.
The CSU has been questioned in recent months for lack of legitimacy, because the term of office of several representations before the CSU has already expired and has not yet been renewed.
Consequently, in the CSU there are people who should no longer occupy positions or make decisions related to the academy or others that by constitutional mandate correspond to the USAC.
The rector election process carried out last April under several questions and which earned Walter Mazariegos the re-election was annulled based on two provisional protections.
One of the questions points out that the CSU did not allow the accreditation of all the opposition electoral bodies that won the primary elections and which according to students and teachers would have meant an imminent defeat for Mazariegos.
But the CSU ruled out most of the opposition, focused on the accreditation of allies and finalized a re-election for Mazariegos as rector of the USAC, which to date remains suspended due to two provisional protections in favor of opposition students and teachers.
