Jesus Antonio Villalobos Barretoalias “Miguelón” or “Chuma”, was captured on May 31 in Playa Grande, Ixcán, Quiché, for the purpose of extradition to the United States for alleged links to drug trafficking.

Villalobos Barreto appears as a State contractor through the construction company Thali, which obtained 35 awards from the Municipality of Ixcán between July 21 and December 30, 2025.

Records from the Guatecompras system indicate that the contracts were granted by the commune led by Mayor Roberto Sub, elected by the ALL party, for maintenance and improvement work on streets, rural roads and drainage in different communities of the municipality.

The awards were made under the low-value purchase modality and include the leasing of heavy machinery, as well as the sale of concrete pipes, iron, cement and other materials used in drainage and road improvement projects.

The machinery was used for work in the villages of Sonora, Los Olivos, Santa Cruz, Monterrey, Las Flores, El Prado, Las Vegas, Nueva Jerusalem, Nueva Chinatzejá, Israel and Riveras del Chixoy, as well as in the 18 de Julio community.

The award amounts range between Q5 thousand and Q25 thousand per event. Of the 35 awards, 13 were justified by the municipality as emergency work for the recovery of rural streets and repair of affected local roads during 2025.

Jesús Antonio Villalobos Barreto was arrested by agents of the General Subdirectorate of Anti-Narcotics Information Analysis (SGAIA) of the National Civil Police (PNC) in Playa Grande, Ixcán. Subsequently, he was transferred under strong security measures to Guatemala City on an aircraft of the Air Unit of the Ministry of the Interior.

According to the authorities, the person sought by the US justice system is accused of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute cocaine, with knowledge that the drug would be illegally imported into the United States.
