The project is aimed at strengthening the food and nutritional security of families in vulnerable situations through a comprehensive approach that combines access to food, sustainable production and consumption of safe water, mainly in homes with pregnant women, mothers and children in Early Childhood.

The initiative includes actions aimed at improving the availability and access to nutritious foods through the implementation of family gardens and sustainable agricultural modules, accompanied by technical training processes and community monitoring. In addition, families will receive water purifying filters to promote the consumption of safe water and food kits that will strengthen the household’s diet.

“At Walmart we believe that generating well-being in communities requires sustainable actions and strategic alliances that allow us to transform lives. Nurturing Life represents a concrete effort to contribute to improving the nutrition and quality of life of Guatemalan families,” said Luis Arturo Ramírez, deputy manager of Corporate Affairs at Walmart.

The project is developed under a comprehensive impact strategy promoted by United Way Guatemala, which articulates components of nutrition, hygiene, health, behavior change and early childhood development, with emphasis on the prevention of child malnutrition and the strengthening of sustainable community capacities.

“This second phase will allow the consolidation of a community model that strengthens family resilience through productive capacities, education and access to essential resources for the health and nutrition of children,” commented Belia Meneses, Executive Director of United Way Guatemala.

With this new intervention in Sacatepéquez, Walmart México y Centroamérica and United Way Guatemala reaffirm their commitment to promoting sustainable initiatives that contribute to the well-being of children, families and rural communities in the country.
