In the Torre de Tribunales Court, in a first statement hearing held this Thursday, June 4, it was resolved that Saulo Sebastián Pérez Sunún, an alleged member of the Mara Salvatrucha, faces criminal proceedings for two crimes.
Perez Sunun would have participated in the attack against the former deputy director of the National Civil Police (PNC), Helver Beltetón. In the armed incident, a niece of the former official and a family friend died at the scene of the attack.
The investigation indicates that the accused would have acted premeditated by watching the victims, whom he later attacked along with other still unidentified people, when they were driving along kilometer 10.5 of the route to the Atlantic, zone 17.
The accused, who confirmed his connection with the Mara Salvatrucha at the hearing on grounds for arrest, will face criminal proceedings for murder and attempted murder.
The judge granted a period of three months to the Prosecutor’s Office against the Crime of Femicide of the Public Ministry, and scheduled the intermediate stage hearing for September 18 in the Second Criminal Court.
While the investigations into the incident continue, the alleged gang member must remain in prison.
So far, he is the only one captured who would be linked to the attack against Beltetón, who was unharmed along with his daughter.
