“We celebrate 100 years of support, closeness and being part of thousands of stories of Guatemalans. We also commemorate the evolution of banking in the country, a story of resilience, transformation and growth. At Bam we have evolved towards a more human banking, focused on listening to our clients and offering solutions that respond to their needs. Thank you to all Guatemalans for your trust; without it, none of this would be possible. We are sure that we will continue to accompany you in the future,” he expressed Federico Bolaños Coloma, general manager and executive director of Bam.

The exhibition is free, it will be open to the public from Monday to Friday from 9:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon and on Saturdays from 9:00 in the morning to 1:00 in the afternoon. Bam invites the public to tour a space that narrates his career through historical pieces and items representative of the financial sector, including works of art, objects used in different eras, as well as a unique collection of the country’s first banknotes and coins.

This exhibition puts a century of service in perspective, highlighting key moments that inspire the present and strengthen the institution’s commitment to the sustainable development and well-being of Guatemalans.

a little history

The origins of Bam date back to June 30, 1926, when the Central Bank of Guatemala was created, assuming the functions of the old Regulatory Fund. Years later, in 1944, the entity adopted the name Banco Agrícola Mercantil, giving continuity to its service and proximity to Guatemalans.

In the mid-1950s, a group of farmers, with the support of the Government, promoted the creation of the Banco del Agro, a key institution for the development of this economic sector, which over time would occupy a leading place within the national banking system.

In 2000, Banco Agrícola Mercantil and Banco del Agro merged to give way to Banco Agromercantil de Guatemala, SA, marking the beginning of a new stage backed by a solid track record in financial service.

Currently, Bam is part of one of the most important financial groups in Latin America, Grupo Cibest, an entity with more than 30 years of listing on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and recognized for its high standards of security and corporate governance.

Throughout its history, Bam has been a witness and protagonist of the development of Guatemala, reflecting the country’s cultural wealth also in its artistic heritage, which brings together works that represent the diversity and evolution of the nation.
