The first match of the World Cup in Mexico vs. South Africa gave the Latin American team a 2-0 victory. But, prior to this game there was one of the most talked about moments of the game, the participation of Alejandro Fernández in the singing of the Mexican National Anthem.

Dressed as a Charro, Fernández sang. The spectators in the Mexico City Stadium (Azteca Stadium) stood up, more than 80 thousand spectators sang in unison with El Potrillo.

The anthem of Mexico is the creation the Mexican poet Francisco González Bocanegra and the Spanish composer Jaime Nunó.

The letter, inspired by patriotic fervorwas written by González Bocanegra, while Nunó provided the melody that would perfectly complement the poet’s words.

Fernández also shared an emotional message on his social networks: “I was born with two blessings, I have always said it and I will continue to say it until the last day: BORN MEXICAN AND BORN FERNÁNDEZ,” he expressed.

The Mexican also wrote: “I have been fortunate to travel the world, to sing in settings that once seemed impossible and to take our music to places I only dreamed of when I was a child. But there are moments that come to remind you where you come from.”

“I grew up with soccer at home, with the usual rivalries, with the afternoons in front of the television and with that passion that unites us all when it comes to Mexico. And although I have been on stage all my life, I have rarely felt so nervous… one thing is going out to sing and another very different thing is going out to represent,” said the singer regarding the experience he lived on June 11.

He also published a photo of him as a child with his father and sent a kiss to heaven.
