A multiple collision was registered this Saturday in the kilometer 45 of the Inter-American routewhere two extra-urban buses and six light vehicles were involved in an accident that left more than 25 people injured and the blocked passage to the West of the country.
According to the Departmental Municipal Firefightersone of the buses covered the route from the capital city to Quichewhile the other was heading towards Tecpán Guatemala, Chimaltenango. They were also involved in the accident six private vehicles.
Cecilio Chacaj, spokesperson for the Departmental Municipal Firefighters, reported that units from Sumpango, Santo Domingo Xenacoj, San Bartolomé Milpas Altas and El Tejar, among other stations, were mobilized.
First responders treated and stabilized more than 25 people on the spot. Besides, six patients were transferred by Departmental Municipal Firefighters to the National Hospital of Chimaltenango, among them a person in delicate condition who was rescued with hydraulic equipment known as jaw of life and a pregnant woman.

Volunteer firefighters also transport injured people
Víctor Gómez, spokesperson for the Volunteer Firefightersreported that elements from several companies were deployed to the scene to support in the attention of the crew members of the vehicles involved. According to the report, four people They were taken by Volunteer Firefighters to the emergency room at the Chimaltenango Regional Hospital.
In total, the relief bodies report 10 people transferred to care centers and more than 25 treated on sitesome due to injuries and others due to a nervous breakdown.
Blocked passage and reversible lane enablement
Due to the magnitude of the accidentthe vehicular passage was blocked in its entirety in the area of the accident, which generated complications for those who were heading towards the west of the country.
The relief bodies coordinated with the National Civil Police (PNC), Provisional and the Municipal Traffic Police to mark the area, avoid new accidents and enable a reversible rail that allows vehicular flow while the vehicles involved are removed.
The authorities recommended drivers take precautions, reduce speed and heed the instructions of the agents who regulate traffic on the Inter-American route.
