A 21-year-old girl who was preparing to do a bungee jump died when she was thrown into the void without safety equipment. The incident was recorded on video that have gone viral on social networks.
The event occurred this Saturday, June 13, 2026, around 10 a.m. (7 hours in Guatemala), during a walk on the Ponte do Esqueleto, a well-known hiking and adventure tourism route located in the municipality of Limeira, state of Sao Paulo, Brazilreported the Military Police.
The images captured by people who were at the scene show how two bungee jumping instructors carry the woman and throw her into the void. The victim was only wearing a helmet.
Seconds later, the screams of those present are heard, who warn: “People, the rope!” However, it was too late, as the young woman fell off the cliff.
According to preliminary reports from the security force, At the time of launch, the instructors did not check or properly fix the safety harnesses and cables, so the woman was thrown into the void without protection and suffered multiple injuries.
People who witnessed the event ran to help the young woman, but when the medical team arrived they found that she had died due to the severity of the blows. The victim was identified as Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, 21 years old.
Two of the alleged perpetrators tried to flee towards a wooded area, but were captured with the support of a Military Police helicopter.
In total, six people were taken to a police station to be questioned about this incident. So far, three remain detained. while authorities determine their possible responsibility in the incident.
The trail has a viaduct located at a height of between 30 and 35 meters, usually used for high-impact activities, such as bungee jump and the rope jump. But on this occasion, the activity ended in tragedy.
