Ismael Saibari scored for Morocco against Scotland 70 seconds into the game and scored, so far, the fastest goal of the 2026 World Cup. However, his goal is still far from the historical records of the World Cups, a classification that has continued to be headed by the Turkish Hakan Şükür since 2002.
The Moroccan midfielder needed just 14 seconds to regain possession after Scotland’s kickoff and 56 more seconds to participate in a play that ended in a goal.
According to an analysis by Opta Analyst, Morocco recovered the ball just 14 seconds after Scotland’s kick-off. From that moment on, the Atlas Lions maintained possession for 56 seconds in a sequence of passes that concluded with the definition of Ismael Saibari inside the area.
The combination of high pressing, ball circulation and offensive efficiency allowed Morocco to open the scoring just over a minute into the game.
With this goal, Saibari reached two goals in the 2026 World Cup, after also scoring against Brazil on the first day.
Despite this, Saibari’s record is far from the fastest goals in World Cup history. The record belongs to Turkey’s Hakan Şükür, who scored 11 seconds into the third-place match at Korea-Japan 2002.
Behind them are the Czechoslovakian Václav Mašek, with a goal after 15 seconds in 1962; the German Ernst Lehner, at 25 seconds in 1934; Englishman Bryan Robson, at 28 seconds in 1982; and the American Clint Dempsey, at 30 seconds in Brazil 2014.
Who is Ismael Saibari?
Born on January 28, 2001 in Terrassa, Spain, Ismael Saibari has Moroccan nationality and has established himself as one of the important pieces of the Atlas Lions.
The footballer, 1.85 meters tall, works as an attacking midfielder for PSV Eindhoven of the Dutch Eredivisie, a club with which he has a contract until June 2029.
With the Moroccan national team he has more than 30 international matches and 11 goals. His performance in the 2026 World Cup has consolidated him as one of the main offensive references of the African team.

Ismael Saibari is only the second African player to score in his first two appearances at the FIFA World Cup, after Egypt’s Mohamed Salah.
