Jorge Vega won the gold medal in the floor event at the Pan American Artistic Gymnastics Championship, held in Rio de Janeiro. The Guatemalan obtained a score of 14.166, the highest in the final.
The silver medal went to the Colombian Ángel Barajas, who reached 13,900 points, while the Brazilian Vitaliy Guimaraes completed the podium with 13,700. The Canadian Felix Dolce also recorded the same score, but was left out of the medal positions due to having a lower difficulty score.
Vega’s triumph was based on a highly complex routine. The national presented a difficulty grade of 5.7, the highest among the medalists, and although he received a penalty of 0.1 points, he managed to win thanks to the quality of his execution and the consistency shown throughout the presentation.
With this performance, the Guatemalan gymnast confirmed his validity among the best floor specialists on the continent and added a new achievement to his outstanding international career.
The 2026 Pan American Artistic Gymnastics Championship brought together the best exponents of the continent in Rio de Janeiro in a competition that served as a thermometer of the current level of gymnastics in the region.

The Guatemalan is now preparing for the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo 2026 that start next July where he will seek to continue adding medals to the Guatemalan medal table in one of the most important multi-sport events in the region.
