Disney-Pixar has taken the franchisetoy story to a new level in its fifth installmentin which he appeals to the nostalgia associated with toys and delves into a reflection on childhood in a world governed by technology. However, it is a deleted scene that now attracts attention due to the symbolism it would have had within the saga.
The little cowgirl Jessie has acquired a relevant role in the new plot, which leads the public to remember her story with Emily, with whom a reunion was planned in toy story 5. However, it was decided to eliminate that scene and give it a different outcome.
It was the reveal included in the Pixar art book of toy story 5 which would have shown fans of the franchise the original concept for the closure of Jessie’s story, although it was finally discarded.
Jessie, who establishes herself as one of the protagonists of the film along with Buzz Lightyear and Woody, takes the audience to remember one of the most painful moments of the saga: the separation from her first owner, Emily. That episode generated abandonment traumas that he now has to face due to Bonnie’s loss of interest in her Lilypad toy.
“I’m losing Bonnie to this device” is one of the phrases that resonate in the trailer for the fifth film, in which Jessie asks Woody for help to regain her owner’s attention. In reality, this moment, marked by the predominance of technology, leads her to remember the traumatic farewell with Emily.
Beyond Jessie’s existential crisis, the story contemplated a reunion with Emily several decades later. Thus, what began in the second film of toy storyreleased in 1999, would have had a definitive closure. However, Pixar decided to opt for another ending.
The reunion, which would have marked 26 years of waiting between the second and fifth films, remained only in sketches. The image shows Emily together with her granddaughter to get Jessie back.
This scene, as explained by co-writer Kenna Harris, although it was considered for the film and appears in the sketches, was removed before starting the animation process by Pixar’s decision. The reason would have been that the plot contained an excess of nostalgia.
Media like Millennium They recovered his statements, in which he detailed: “We consider that a direct physical encounter resorted to an excess of nostalgia.” For this reason, he highlighted that a different closure was chosen and with greater symbolism for the cowgirl.
This left the followers of toy story with a different outcome and with the desire to see that reunion that marked several generations.
It is also known that the song I Knew It, I Knew Youby Taylor Swift, would have been written inspired by the little cowgirl, and many users on social networks consider that it is a response to when someone loved me.
