The Pope Leo XIV This Sunday he expressed his gratitude and encouragement to those involved in rescue and assistance efforts in Venezuelaafter the earthquake that has left, until now, 1,430 deadthousands of injuries and severe material damage.
During the prayer of AngelusFrom the window of the Apostolic Palace in St. Peter’s Square, the pontiff expressed his closeness to the victims of the disaster and their families.

“I wish to express my closeness to the Venezuelan sisters and brothers affected by the recent earthquakes that caused numerous victims and injuries, as well as enormous material damage,” he declared in Spanish.

The leader of the Catholic Church also prayed for the eternal rest of the deceased and reiterated his spiritual support for those facing the consequences of this tragedy.

In addition, Leo XIV highlighted the work of those who collaborate in search and assistance operations, while the country continues removing rubble in search of missing persons.

International aid for Venezuela
After the strong earthquake recorded last Wednesday, several countries and international organizations have shown their support for Venezuela with humanitarian aid and specialized equipment.

Among them Indiawho sent a field hospital to care for the wounded. Costa Rica mobilized specialized rescuers, while Argentina, United States, Ecuador, Spain, Dominican Republic, Chili, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Guatemala They have also sent logistical support, emergency personnel and supplies.

For its part, the UN installed three field hospitals to reinforce medical care in the most affected areas.
Financial support from the Vatican
As part of the immediate response, Pope Leo XIV sent a first financial aid of 100 thousand euros through the Apostolic Almsintended to cover the most urgent needs of the victims.
The earthquake, considered one of the most destructive in Venezuela’s recent history, has left buildings collapsed, communities cut off and thousands of families displaced, while rescue efforts continue.
