After a citizen complaint and the intervention of agents from Police Station 24, the Salvadoran Melvin “N”, 30 years old, alias “Chapato”, was located in the municipal market in zone 1 of Zacapa.
The detainee is an alleged member of the Barrio 18 gang and is wanted by the authorities of El Salvador for being among the 100 most wanted in that country, as reported this Tuesday, June 30, by the National Civil Police (PNC).
After his identification, investigators from the Specialized Criminal Investigation Directorate, in coordination with Interpol Guatemala, verified that the captured person had an international red alert in force and was wanted by the Salvadoran justice system.
The arrest warrant was issued by a Tecoluca court in 2014 for the crimes of terrorist organizations and aggravated homicide, the PNC added.
The suspect was transferred to the Nueva Anguiatú border, in Concepción Las Minas, Chiquimula, the PNC stated.
He was later expelled from Guatemalan territory and handed over to the authorities of El Salvador to face the judicial process against him, the police report indicated.
