What began as a family celebration ended up becoming a tragedy. Nidia Renata Bautista García, 39, and Kevin Alexander Jiménez Ambrosio, 29, a couple who has been building a life project together for two years, face the consequences of a road incident that occurred on Sunday, June 28, which keeps Renata in serious condition and has completely changed the future of her family.
That day they met to celebrate in advance the ninth birthday of Renata’s youngest daughter, whose birthday falls on Tuesday, June 30. The family decided to bring the celebration forward because she had to report to work on Monday as a cosmetics seller on the highway to El Salvador, where she has worked for approximately 10 years.
As part of the celebration, Ilda Ambrocio, Kevin’s mother and dedicated to baking, prepared a cake with the figure of Snoopy for the girl. Hours before the incident, Renata picked him up and said goodbye to her mother-in-law and sister-in-law with a hug that, according to her family members now remember, was especially emotional.
Kevin’s two daughters, ages 10 and 7, as well as Renata’s sisters also attended the celebration. At the end of the activity, Melissa, Renata’s eldest daughter, 23 years old, transported the girls in a vehicle, while Renata and Kevin returned home on a motorcycle.
An event that changed their lives
According to relatives, a vehicle collided with the motorcycle on which the couple was traveling. After the fall, Kevin regained consciousness and tried to locate Renata.
According to the family’s version, the driver of the car, identified as Jorge David Rodas, continued the journey. They claim that Renata was dragged by the vehicle and that, after stopping briefly and attempting to remove her without success, the motorist reboarded the car, drove over her and fled the scene.
As a result of her injuries, Renata remains hospitalized in serious condition and suffered the amputation of one of her arms, a sequel that will transform her personal and work life.
Kevin, an expert accountant, suffered minor injuries; However, his relatives assure that he remains deeply affected by what happened. Due to hospital restrictions, he has not yet been able to see her and has asked medical staff to allow him to speak to her, hoping she can hear him.
The couple shared a close relationship, strengthened by common projects and their love of soccer, a sport they played frequently.
A family faces uncertainty
The emergency also affects Renata’s three children: a 23-year-old girl, who is currently carrying out the procedures related to the case; a 14-year-old teenager, and the girl who recently turned 9 years old. While their mother remains hospitalized, the two minors are temporarily under the care of their biological father.
Relatives have expressed concern about the possibility that the case will be prosecuted as a less serious crime and ask that the authorities investigate the facts rigorously.
“It’s not fair. We want the person to respond, even if that doesn’t repair the damage or the arm she lost,” said Ilda Ambrocio, Kevin’s mother.
The woman described Renata as a hard-working person and dedicated to her children. In addition, he stated that, according to the information known to the family, the driver tried to remove the victim from under the vehicle and later continued driving.
“How is it possible that she didn’t think about the pain she was causing? The suffering that Renata went through is very great,” Ambrocio said.
