Guatemala swears in 480 athletes for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games

This Wednesday, July 1, Guatemala swore in the delegation that will represent the country in the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026made up of 480 athletes and a mission of 643 peoplebetween coaches, medical staff, leaders and support team.

The event took place at the Teodoro Palacios Flores gym, where the national sports authorities made official the beginning of the path towards the main regional eventprogrammed from July 24 to August 8 in the Dominican Republic.

During the ceremony, the flag bearers of the delegation: Maria Alejandra Higuerostaekwondo, and Erick Gordilloswimming.

They were designated as escorts Nitea Alejandra Sotomayorbadminton, and Faberson Bonillaskating.

The president of the Guatemalan Olympic Committee, Gerardo Aguirre, highlighted that This will be the largest delegation that the country has taken to the Central American and Caribbean Gamessurpassing the participations of Barranquilla 2018, Veracruz 2014, Mayagüez 2010 and Cartagena 2006.

Furthermore, he highlighted that The 480 athletes represent close to 70% of those who competed in the 2025 Central American Games in Guatemalareflecting the growth of national sports.

The delegation is made up of 267 men and 213 womenwho will compete in a special edition of the Games, which commemorates the centenary of the regional organization and will bring together representatives of more than 30 countries on the continent.

After taking the oath, the athletes were officially qualified to represent Guatemala in Santo Domingo, with the mission of seek medals and keep the country among the protagonists of regional sports.
