On the night of Friday, July 3, Provial reported a traffic accident at kilometer 115 of the route to the Atlantic, in Usumatlán, Zacapa. Two people died in the accident.
The accident caused long lines of vehicles for at least six hours.
According to the report, a trailer loaded with blocks collided at the scene, and when it left the lane it hit a ceiba tree. A car traveling in the opposite lane came under the heavy transport.
Dawn revealed the magnitude of the mishap. The two pilots were killed and both vehicles were destroyed.
The Departmental Municipal Firefighters confirmed this Saturday, July 4, that the pilot of the trailer was a 16-year-old teenager, who is among the deceased.
“It took us more than two hours to remove it. We had to close almost five hours to maneuver with two trucks and remove the head of the ceiba tree. The young boy was between the irons. One expects to see a grown man, but when we got there we saw that he was a teenager, and his family confirmed it,” said the aforementioned relief body.
Images from the scene reveal the force of the collision. The blocks were scattered and destroyed on the road.
The bodies of the pilots were transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences, while authorities investigate how the tragedy occurred.
Cranes maneuver at the scene to remove the damaged vehicles.
A tow truck driver indicated that each week they attend to up to four accidents on different routes, in which various types of vehicles are involved.
