15 years after her disappearance, Cristina Siekavizza’s family remembered her and renewed the call for information to be shared that contributes to her location.
At a press conference this Monday, July 6, at the Survivors Foundation, María Mercedes and Roberto José, Cristina’s children, spoke for the first time about the case. They reiterated the call to the Guatemalan population to share any information that may help locate their mother, which will be received anonymously.
Juan Luis Siekavizza and his wife, Angelis Molina, Cristina’s parents, also participated in the conference, as well as Susana Siekavizza, sister of the missing woman.
The relatives assured that their wish is to know Cristina’s whereabouts, give her a dignified burial and close a mourning that has remained open for more than a decade.
Roberto José expressed: “I remember her as a very compassionate person, she went to hospitals to accompany children with cancer, she always accompanied us in our studies, she was a spectacular mother, a spectacular wife, a spectacular daughter, I remember her very well.”
María Mercedes indicated that she does not have many memories of Cristina, since she was younger than Roberto when she disappeared. He said that it has helped him that his family and friends of Cristina tell him stories about her to get to know her in some way.
“It fills me with joy that they remember her with so much love, because in the end she was a very correct person,” he shared.
Susana Siekavizza, Cristina’s sister, indicated: “how we want this case to be remembered, as a case of impunity, but it is not a case that we as a family want to remain in impunity, that is why we are here today mainly honoring the affection, justice and love that we have for Cristina, she is our loved one, we want us to finally be able to have justice.”
He stated that in the case they tried to erase evidence so that the investigation was as null as possible. “We want to have our loved one, we want to have a place where we can leave flowers and have a Christian burial,” he said.
He also called on the population to provide information, since this is a matter of humanity, and stated that they will continue with the search and with “this eternal question.”
On July 6, 2011, Cristina Siekavizza disappeared from her home, located in the Los Manantiales condominium, kilometer 19.3 of the highway to San José Pinula.
The case gained public notoriety on July 24, 2011, when a demonstration was held on Las Américas Avenue in support of the Siekavizza family, who asked for help to locate them.
During investigations carried out by the Public Ministry, it was revealed that, inside the house, they found blood stains in a room, identified through the luminol test. These findings led the investigation to lead to a murder and not a kidnapping, as was initially speculated. Roberto Barreda, Cristina’s husband, was identified as the main suspect.
