He United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that an agent of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) shot at Lorenzo Salgado Araujoa Mexican migrant who was in the country irregularly, during an operation carried out on the morning of July 7 in Houston, Texas. The man was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
According to the official version, the incident occurred around the 6.50 hourswhen ICE agents were trying to stop a vehicle as part of an operation aimed at capturing Salgado Araujo.
According to DHS, the driver attempted to evade arrest, rammed an official vehicle, disobeyed several verbal commands and used his car “like a weapon” when trying to run over one of the agents. Faced with this situation, the officer involved opened fire, arguing that he acted in self defense.
The authorities indicated that the services Emergency services were immediately alerted and the migrant was taken to a healthcare center, where he died as a result of his injuries.
FBI takes over the investigation

Until now, authorities have not revealed the identity of the agent who shot, the number of bullet impacts, or whether there are recordings of the operation through body cameras or other video surveillance systems.
Organizations call for an independent investigation
After hearing about the case, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) expressed concern about the use of deadly force and requested a thorough and independent investigation to determine whether the officer’s actions were justified.

The organization also asked that all the circumstances of the operation be clarified and transparency be guaranteed during the investigation process.
The case joins other incidents
The death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo occurs amid growing scrutiny of immigration operations in the United States.
