Napoli celebrates its centenary with a shirt inspired by Diego Maradona

Napoli decided to celebrate its first hundred years of history by looking back to the moment that forever transformed the club’s identity: the arrival of Diego Armando Maradona and the conquest of the first Serie A title.

The Italian institution presented this Monday the shirt that it will use during the 2026-2027 season, a special edition commemorating the centenary that recovers the visual essence of the uniform with which it won the historic ‘Scudetto’ of 1987, the first of the entity and one of the most remembered chapters of Italian football.

“The kit was born looking at the collective memory of Neapolitan fans and one of the most emblematic jerseys in the club’s history: that of the first ‘Scudetto’, with its unmistakable blue and the memory of the wool of the kits from the eighties,” the club explained in its official presentation.

A tribute to the Maradona era

The uniform was developed for the sixth consecutive year together with EA7, Giorgio Armani’s sports line, and combines classic elements with modern materials.

The design maintains the characteristic sky blue that accompanied the team during the most glorious stage in its history, when Maradona led Naples to win the Italian championship in 1987, breaking the dominance that until then was exercised by the big clubs in the north of the country.

As part of the launch campaign, the club used images of the Argentine star, whose figure continues to be the greatest sporting symbol of the city and an inseparable reference to the Neapolitan identity.

A shield for 100 years

The new shirt incorporates a commemorative shield created especially for the centenary.

The emblem brings together the historical Corsiero del Soleused by the club in 1926; the number 100; the infinity symbol, as a representation of the link between the team and the city; and the current shield of Naples.

The inscription appears on the back of the neck “Parthenopei”a tribute to the inhabitants of Naples and the deep relationship between the club and its fans.

Additionally, the fabric was designed to evoke the texture of wool t-shirts used during the 1980s, combining that historical reference with current manufacturing technology.

One hundred years with Maradona as a symbol

The presentation was made under the motto “Pe’cient’anne” (“For a hundred years”), in reference to the centenary that the club will officially celebrate on August 1, a date that Neapolitan collective memory recognizes as the birth of modern Naples.

Although the history of football in the city dates back to the end of the 19th century, the institution chose to commemorate its century of existence by recovering the image of the stage that definitively changed its destiny.

Four decades after the first ‘Scudetto’, Naples decided that the best way to celebrate its 100 years was to once again wear the colors of the era in which Diego Maradona turned the club into a legend of world football.
