Did it eliminate the nuclear threat? Why Trump calls the war in Iran a “success”

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, described this Wednesday the war in Iran as “a tremendous success” because it managed to eliminate the nuclear threat from the Islamic Republic.

“The most important thing is that crazy people do not have access to nuclear weapons, and that is what we have achieved,” said the president at a press conference in Ankara, at the end of the NATO summit and shortly before leaving for the United States.

“Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. I call it ‘denuclearize Iran,’ and that is what has happened. They will never have a nuclear weapon,” Trump insisted, referring to the bombings against atomic facilities of the Islamic Republic in 2025 and this year.

Regarding the 440 kilos of highly enriched uranium produced by Iran, he assured that “that material is so deep under a mountain, it is a mountain of granite that collapsed on top. It would take months to get it out.”

Uranium enriched to 60%, produced by Iran before June 2025, when the first bombings by Israel and the United States took place, has a purity close to that necessary to build atomic weapons.

Iran assures that it needs this material for medical and industrial purposes, while the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) highlights that the Islamic Republic is the only country in the world without nuclear weapons that produces uranium with that purity.

Iran and the United States exchanged attacks again last night, which is why Trump assured today that he is terminating the framework agreement for a ceasefire between the parties.
