Approximately 40 senators from USA sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in which they demand reforms in the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The petition arises as a result of recent events in which two migrants, a Mexican and a Colombian, died after incidents in which immigration agents were involved.
The letter was led by the independent senator for the state of Maine Angus King, who called for greater transparency in ICE operations, in addition to the adoption of measures that guarantee it.
Among the demands of the senators consider that agents must use body cameras and carry clearer identification during operations.
They also asked DHS for a more thorough review of ICE protocols and for authorities to provide more information about incidents in which immigration agents have used force.
In recent days, Mexican Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Colombian Johan Durán were shot dead by ICE agents during traffic stops in Texas and Maine, respectively.
Additionally, on July 14, another migrant who has not been identified died in Florida when he was attacked by a truck after another ICE traffic stop.
These episodes occur after a wave of questions against ICE at the beginning of 2026, after the death of two American citizens during immigration operations in Minneapolis.
