A shooting recorded this Wednesday, July 22 in the central park of San Antonio Las Flores, Chinautla, caused panic among neighbors and visitors. The attack left a 17-year-old teenager dead, seven men injured and four alleged members of the Mara Salvatrucha captured, reported the National Civil Police (PNC).
The attack occurred in the community park, where several people were gathered when the shooting began. Those present sought shelter to avoid being hit by bullets.
Volunteer firefighters from several companies responded to the emergency. First responders stabilized seven men with gunshot wounds and transferred them to the San Juan de Dios General Hospital and the General Accident Hospital of the Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS) 7-19.
A 17-year-old teenager died at the scene, whose name was not revealed by authorities.
Captured
The PNC reported that agents from Police Station 12 captured four alleged members of the Mara Salvatrucha who, according to the institution, were trying to flee on two motorcycles after the attack.
The detainees are Marlon “C”, 23 years old, alias “Mosca”, and Jordi “C”, 26 years old. In addition, two adolescents aged 16 and 15, known by the aliases “Timba” and “Colocho”, were referred to the corresponding court.
According to the Police, during the operation two 9 millimeter caliber pistols were seized: a Sig Sauer that had been reported stolen on March 9, 2026 on the Anís bridge, Amatitlán, and a Glock.
Two cell phones were also seized, which will be subjected to analysis as part of the investigation.
The authorities continue with the investigation to establish the motive for the attack and determine if there are more people involved. The detainees were traveling on two motorcycles that were also seized.
