The traffic authorities of the metropolitan area remain on alert due to the rest of Holy Week, which will significantly influence the road behavior of the main departure routes to the province during the next few days and at certain times.

According to Amílcar Montejo, communication director of Emetra, as of Monday, April 14 and Tuesday, April 15, Transit in Guatemala will be lighter, mainly during the morning, since educational centers enjoy Easter rest.

However, Montejo warns that on Holy Wednesday a wave of vehicles is expected after noon.

It is precisely when the rest of many city workers begins and, in that sense, it is expected that many will go to sectors such as short routes, long routes, extra -urban areas, the wholesale plant or northern center to move to their departments.

Therefore, complications are foreseen in the connection of the Aguilar Batres road to the route to the Pacific; from the Roosevelt road to the inter -American route; from Martí Street to the Route to the Atlantic, and in the Boulevard sector Los Próceres and Vista Hermosa to Road to El Salvador.

Montejo added that for Holy Thursday complications could still be registered, because some people who failed to move on Wednesday would try that day.

He also stressed that it should be taken into account that all the people who left the city during the week will return on Easter Sunday, so the income to the capital could be impacted.

High risk

Montejo said that during these days the risk of drunk drivers, speeding and clandestine races, mainly during the nights of Thursday and Good Friday, as well as throughout the day on Saturday of Glory.

Something that should be mentioned is that, within all this mobility, the religious component will have greater impact on the city on Good Friday afternoon, since the historic center will be closed for the realization of seven processions and the elaboration of the carpet of the city. In that sense, it recommends taking alternate routes such as the peripheral, Martí Street, La Asunción Boulevard, the points near the Liberation Boulevard and the areas near the Avenue of the Cemetery, especially from the 20th street to zone 3.

In Mixco

For his part, Roger Escalante, manager of the Municipal Traffic Police of Mixco (Emixtra), said that road complications are also expected in that municipality, so he made some recommendations.

He added that unusual behaviors were detected in transit since last Friday.

“On Wednesday we will practically have the exodus of most people living in the different points of Guatemala, especially towards the West. We expect saturation on the inter -American route,” Escalante said.

He ensures that, to meet the demand, 90% of the traffic agents will be located at the points with the highest vehicle influx, such as the Roosevelt road in ascent, San Cristóbal Boulevard and San Juan Calzada.

He also indicated that complications at these points will intensify Wednesday between 10 am and 11.00.

He called the drivers to contribute to prevent traffic facts: “A lot of caution, check your vehicle and, above all, keep attentive to the wheel.”

In Villa Nueva

Henry Quevedo, spokesman for the Municipal Traffic Police of Villa Nueva, indicated that high vehicular load is expected on Holy Wednesday; However, traffic will decrease until Sunday afternoon.
