The National Civil Police (PNC) reported this July 26 on the strengthening of its actions, derived from the recent criminal and violent events that have occurred in Guatemala in recent days.

The PNC, through a statement published on social networks, reported that the recent criminal acts come from “criminal structures and organized crime groups.”

Operational deployment

In its statement, the Police announced the deployment of the so-called Special Police Forces Division, in addition to specialized units.

The PNC will also increase tactical raids and high-intensity patrols in the municipalities that, according to the institution, were identified as areas with the highest vulnerability index.

The Police will also activate the red code using the emergency number 110. The PNC detailed that it will prioritize the response in minutes to alerts that include cries for help, acts of violence inside buildings or the presence of armed people.

Checkpoints

The PNC will increase mobile checkpoints and blockades, with the aim of intensively verifying people and vehicles that enter the municipalities at night.

Coordination with mayors

Through the video surveillance network, the PNC will also coordinate with the mayors’ offices to monitor people suspected of committing criminal activities.
