A few days after deadline expires to pay the Tax on Vehicle Circulation (ISCV)users have alerted about an alleged scam which uses the image of the Superintendence of Tax Administration (SAT) to offer a non-existent 25% discount on the payment of the tax.
The publication, which circulates on social networks and other digital platforms, invites contributors to use the supposed promotional code SAT25CONTIGOwith the promise of obtaining a discount on the value of the circulation tax that must be paid for this year. Then direct people’s attention to a button to complete an assumption form SAT-4091with the argument of applying the discount and generating the payment slip.
SAT confirms that the promotion is false
consulted by Free press, the Department of Social Communication of the SAT confirmed that the institution does not promote any discount campaigns related to the road tax and warned that the publication is false.
The SAT team explained that, although the form SAT-4091 Yes, it exists and is the correct one to process the payment of this tax, it can only be generated through official platforms Virtual Agency and Declaraguate.
For this reason, the SAT recommended to taxpayers Do not enter personal information in external links nor access pages other than the official channels of the institution.
The objective would be to obtain personal information
In the past, cybersecurity specialists have explained on different occasions that this type of fraud corresponds to a modality known as phishinga technique by which criminals impersonate the identity of public institutions, banks or companies to deceive people and obtain confidential information.
By filling out fake forms, victims could provide sensitive data such as their full name, email, date of birth, phone number, Unique Identification Code (CUI)as well as information on bank accounts either credit cards. This data can later be used to commit fraud or impersonate users.
Experts also warn that cybercriminals are increasingly turning to more sophisticated methods to build trust. In this case, the fraudulent publication even correctly displays the official website address of the SAT and the telephone number of the institution to appear authentic.
