Penitentiary System authorities (SP) reported on Monday, April 14 that five deprived of liberty planned a leak through a tunnel that excavated under the rehabilitation center of Puerto Barrios, Izabal.
“We informed the population that this Monday, based on analysis of prison information, a thorough tour was made at the Puerto Barrios Rehabilitation Center, in the department of Izabal. During its inspection, the Penitentiary Guard found a tunnel that allegedly intended to use a group of deprived of liberty to escape from the detention center,” said Sergio Vela, director of the SP.
The official added that the possibly involved inmates were made available to the National Civil Police, for their consignment and subsequent presentation before the Courts of Justice.
“In this way, the General Directorate of the Penitentiary System prevents a possible leakage and complying with its mandate of law. The vision of prison renewal continues to progress in the restoration of control in the country’s detention centers,” added Vela ..
Among the inmates are Franklin Godoy Trujillo, José Francisco Rivera Castillo and Rogelio Pérez Hernández. All have convictions for the crimes of illicit associations and plagiarism or kidnapping, and face another criminal money laundering process. False shepherds are pointed out to integrate the criminal structure.
