The National Civil Police (PNC) extended details about the five inmates that on Monday, April 14 were surprised when they dug a tunnel with the Alleged intention to escape from the Puerto Barrios Rehabilitation Center, in Izabal.
The PNC indicated that one of the deprived of liberty is a member of the band “the false shepherds” and allegedly led the group of inmates who dug the tunnel.
He added that agents of the Izabal Police Station, in support of the prison system, discovered that, in sector 3, block 3, of the aforementioned prison center, five inmates made a tunnel and had fallen approximately three meters.
“It is presumed that they intended to escape, but they were discovered and consigned again, along with handmade tools, an electrical extension and a fan used to work in the tunnel, according to the PNC.
The inmates were identified as Marcos Baudilio Godoy Trujillo, 51; Josué Elías Coy Xoy, 44; Juan Guillermo Ramón Chum, aka “El Pelón”, 24; Juan Carlos Munguía Molina, 24, and Juan Alberto Martínez, 22, according to the police report.
According to the PNC, these inmates meet sentences for the crimes of plagiarism or kidnapping, illicit association, extortion, homicide, illegal carrying of civil guns and/or sports, and homicide.
He added that Marcos Godoy Trujillo belongs to the band He entered the Canada criminal farm, in Escuintla, in 2014.
He recalled that, in 2016, the aforementioned prison On Monday he intended to escape using the same method.
The PNC presumes that Godoy Trujillo is the organizing leader of the tunnels to escape.

The deprived of liberty has a history of the crimes of kidnapping or plagiarism, illicit association, aggravated robbery, and evasion, with records in courts of Suchitepéquez and Jutiapa, corresponding to June 2014 and August 4, 2016, said the PNC.
