The celebration of LHoly Week in Guatemala It is a living expression in which faith, devotion and cultural wealth of the people converge. Each year, thousands of faithful participate in the processional courtships, carrying on their shoulders the images that evoke the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross and his triumph over death, as the Scriptures narrate.
One of the most solemn moments of the Pascual Triduum is Holy Saturday. On this day of recollection, the streets of the city are filled with incense, sawdust carpets and funeral marches, who accompany the memory of Jesus’ body in the sepulcher and his descent to hell, according to the Christian tradition, to overcome death and open the doors of eternal life.
Throughout the routes, the devotees accompany the mourning of the Virgin Mary and announce the hours when Christ lay in the grave, awaiting the glory of the resurrection.
This day, marked by the solemn time and hope, begins the Pascual vigil, preparation time to celebrate the passage of Death to life.
