Municipal was a flattener this Sunday at the El Trébol stadium and sealed its ticket to the semifinals of the Clausura 2024 tournament with a forceful 4-0 win against Mixco. The scarlets became the third team classified to the next phase of the National Championship, leaving behind any questions after the goalless draw in the first leg.
The beginning of the game was tense, with both teams measuring intensely and without giving spaces. Mixco clung to defensive order while the reds tried to break the block. It was until the last sigh of the first half that zero broke, thanks to a determining play.
In addition to the first half, César Archila was shot down inside the area by a strong entrance by Jerry Ojeda. The referee Julio Luna did not hesitate and pointed out the criminal point. José “El Flaco” Martínez assumed responsibility and with category marked 1-0 that freed the scarlet fans before the break.
With the impulse of the goal and the Stadium on, Municipal came out in the second half determined to liquidate the series. Just at minute 47, Rudy “La Joya” Muñoz signed a work of art with a powerful shot from outside the area that slipped at the angle. It was 2-0 and the party was just beginning.
Mixco, physically and emotionally overcome, was losing presence in the field. From there, the show was from César Archila, who stole the reflectors with a double. The first arrived at minute 70, culminating a great collective play with accurate definition.
Eight minutes later, Archila wore what many already consider the best goal of the tournament. From almost half a field, he noticed that goalkeeper Kevin Moscoso was advanced and did not think twice: he took a spectacular right that slipped into the arch to put the final 4-0.
The goal was speechless to more than one and it was the cherry in the cake of a magical night for the reds. The ovation in the clover was total, recognizing not only victory, but the way in which it was achieved, with character, forcefulness and good football.
Municipal advances with authority to the semifinals and hopes to meet their rival to continue their way to the title. With figures such as Archila and Muñoz on, the reds arrive in great shape to the most demanding part of the tournament.
Mixco, meanwhile, says goodbye to the contest with a bitter taste. After an irregular season, the dream ended in a painful way, without being able to react to a municipal that showed its best version at the key time.
