Arévalo appoints María Rivera Minister del Maga and Claudia Palencia, Vice Minister Antinarcotics

At a press conference this Friday, May 9, at the National Palace, President Bernardo Arévalo He confirmed María Fernanda Rivera as the new minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (Maga).

According to the Government, the new Minister is an agronomist in renewable natural resources, graduated from the University of San Carlos de Guatemala.

It has more than 15 years of experience in issues related to rural development, sustainable agriculture, food security, natural resources and climate change.

Rivera has worked in both state institutions and international organizations and cooperation, which – according to the government – gives it a broad and technical vision of the challenges of Guatemalan agriculture.

The new official replaces Maynor Estrada, who presented his resignation, which was accepted by the Presidency.

In addition, Arévalo swore to Claudia Palencia as Anti -Narcotics Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior, replacing Werner Ovalle, who now serves as head of the Superintendence of Tax Administration.
