On a small wooden bank and with the authority of a cream leader, Mirciny Moliviatiswith just four years, he directed the kitchen of his house. His “auxiliaries” were his two older brothers. They played to be a restaurant, and she organized the dishes and distributed instructions. That game, encouraged by his mother, Magaly Morales, was the beginning of a brilliant career.
What began as a children’s fantasy became a vocation. Years later, Moliviatis is recognized as one of the most influential chefs in Guatemala And it has been internationally awarded with the Gourmand Award, taking national cuisine to global stages.
Behind each step was Magaly, his first fan and main driver. With admirable balance, he combined his professional career with the raising of his children. He always motivated his daughter to shine with his own light. “I am Mirciny Moliviatis’s greatest,” Magaly says proudly.
“She was very naughty, very outgoing. He loved to play the house. He cooked, put his brothers in front and played to be the owner of the restaurant. He asked them: ‘Lord, I serve him?'”
Today, mother and daughter share more than a story: a legacy where love, respect and family vocation found their best recipe.
Since childhood, I knew what I wanted
Magaly Morales knew early that his daughter had an innate passion for the kitchen, shared with her grandmother. Therefore, he decided not to impose limits: he let her explore and accompanied her path with enthusiasm.
As a working mother, Morales trusted her mother to care for her mother, an exceptional cook. “My mom cooked exquisite, and Mirciny was happy when she stayed with her. They played and cooked,” he recalls.
Since then, Mirciny helped in the kitchen, small, but determined. “He had a bench where he went up to cook. From there he watched his brothers. He was the supervisor since he was four years.”
It was so curious that at that age I already asked to go to school. It even supervised the preparation of its lunchbox. In class it was active, determined and overwhelming personality. “Since childhood, I knew what I wanted,” says Morales.

“My mom and grandmother have been fundamental in my career”
Mirciny Moliviatis acknowledges that his mother’s support was key: “He has always been in my career. It is my most important reference because he has always been sincere with me. He tells me: ‘This you can do better’, ‘here you must strive more.’ He does not do so for criticizing, but because he wants me to grow up.”
He also remembers the time shared with his grandmother, who enjoyed cooking. Next to her she learned her first recipes and lived endearing moments, such as the preparation of tamales, cakes and colders, family sharing symbols.
“My grandmother’s house was the meeting point: for the broth, the cooking of Sundays, the family lunches, the tamales, the colder. We met there and loved each other. That spirit still lives thanks to the kitchen,” he says.

Between work and being “Mapacho”
Magaly Morales always looked for the best for his three children. During Mirciny’s childhood, he worked in international cooperation, between flights and meetings, while being present in their lives.
He wanted to teach them independence, affection and the importance of effort. “The professional was part of my life, but my most important role was to be a mother,” he says.
With humor remember to have been “Mapacho”: mother, father and driver. “I became what my children needed to be fine.”
One of her favorite anecdotes is when, when working at the National Palace, she took Mirciny in a bag and hid her under her desk to take care of her while fulfilling her functions.
Being a mother has been, he says, her greatest achievement. He tried to balance love, discipline, help and freedom. “I did it firmly, but without hurting. I wanted them to be children, but with limits.”
Mirciny remembers with admiration: “It helped us study, he cooked, attended our activities. I don’t know how he did it: when he woke up, he was already active; when sleeping, he was still standing.”
“We never lacked love, time or essential,” adds the chef, who still has her mother at her side. “She was always. Even now, if I study something, she sits with me. We read together,” he says.

His mother’s invaluable value
For Mirciny, his mother is a pillar. Even today he receives it with dinner served and listens to it when he shares projects.
“It’s my number one fan … and my strongest criticism. I don’t applaud for being my mother, but because she believes in me. He demands me, drives me. I value: her guide, her honesty, her company,” he says.
Magaly was not only a mother: she was a medical, driver, cook, counselor, teacher, psychologist … everything her daughter needed. “He always put his children first of all,” Moliviatis points out.
Thanks to her, she met unconditional love. “Sometimes it bothered me when I corrected, but I was always right. The wisdom of a mother never fails.”
“His connection with me is so deep that his dreams become mine. When I achieve something, we celebrate it together. He is always there, in silence, but present,” he concludes.
