Oakland Place in collaboration with Cementos Progreso and the Municipality of Guatemala, carried out the City Crafters contest, where 22 product design students from the Francisco Marroquín University, had the mission of reimagining the furniture of zone 10 capital and presented innovative proposals to improve the neighborhood.
City Crafters challenged students to design an urban bank that, in addition to its functionality, will reflect the cultural identity of zone 10, creating a meeting and coexistence space. During the awards event, a panel of expert judges evaluated the proposals of 22 participants based on creativity, functionality and sustainability, selecting the winning design that will soon be produced and installed, positively impacting the community.
“For progress cements, innovation and sustainability are fundamental pillars to contribute to the development of our country, which is achieved through resilient and responsible construction works that use the highest quality materials. Therefore, we are excited to be part of a contest that encourages talent and innovation as urban strengthening catalysts, ”said Christopher Schlosser, Development Manager Infrastructure and Housing.

The impact of City Crafters transcends the academic field, demonstrating how innovation and responsible development can transform the city, improving the quality of life of its inhabitants and creating an urban legacy that inspires future generations of designers.

Through City Crafters, we encourage the creativity of the new generations and contribute to urban well -being, promoting a more connected and sustainable city, ”said María José Aragón, manager of Oakland Place.

Víctor de León, graduated from the Product Design career of the Francisco Marroquín University, was recognized as the winner of City Crafters, highlighting his talent and vision in the design of innovative and functional urban furniture.
“The design has the power to transform environments and improve people’s lives. In City Crafters, our students develop real urban furniture projects, facing design challenges with the expert guide and the support of strategic allies. This experience strengthens their training and shows them the direct impact of their work in the city, ”concluded Monica Pagurut, Director of Product Design of the UFM Faculty of Architecture.
